July 21, 2018: Greenmarket #1
The forecast threatened a wet walk, but it turned into a perfect day of sun and a refreshing breeze. And our families showed up in force.
We were especially pleased to have Andrew Suseno present “parcon” (parkour + contact improvisation) to the group—a great technique for moving your body through space in any environment, and good for kids and adults.
Two of our Cyclopedia counselors, Carmen and Maria, helped with translations and then we walked! We stopped at Marcus Garvey Park to rest, have our apples and bananas and distribute Health Bucks. Our usual market partner, the Youth Greenmarket at La Marqueta, won’t be open this season due to construction at their site; so we returned to the Harvest Home Lenox Avenue Farm Stand, with a great selection of produce, plus food preparation demo.
Plenty of fresh food for everyone and a great day to walk the neighborhood.
