June 24, 2017: Play
Fourth walk of our 4th season!
Though we were expecting rain, we were blessed with the perfect weather. The sun shined, and we were ready for play!
We began our walk at Poor Richard’s Playground as usual, and while waiting for everyone to gather, the children played on the swings and the playground. After Dr. Cappy gathered everyone around, he explained that play is very important in children development. In addition to providing opportunities to de-stress, playing allows for children to engage with their environment through social and physical activities – even going on a walk or playing at a nearby park is great. Before we started walking, we took a group photo and headed out toward Johnson Community Center.
At Johnson Community Center, we stopped and had everyone get up and do a few exercises that were led by Emma. Families stretched, jumped, lunged, and ran back and forth. After our exercise, we had bananas and apples for snacks. Of course, the peels and cores were composted. A few of the families who were interested in Cyclopedia signed up, and finally we headed to the JungleGym!
At the JungleGym, there were blow up playhouses, obstacle courses, and crafts stations that kids of all ages could enjoy. We even got free t-shirts!
